John Michael Lorenz, a man of great wisdom and good humor, died on February 21, 2026, in Neenah. He was 69 years old. He was born April 15, 1956, in Appleton.
John will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Barbara; two daughters, Mary (Matt) Mellott and Becky (Rick) Crouse; three grandchildren, William, Benjamin, and Alden; three brothers, David (Cathy), Dan (Dee), and Lonn (Linda); five sisters, Deeahna, Laurie, Cheri, Jean (Rick) Bushey, and Debbie (Steve) Gradl; brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Darlene.
John lived a life of character and conviction. He often quoted Sir Winston Churchill, “Never give in, never, never…” when those around him were facing trials or uncertainty of any kind. He lived a life of honesty and humility and had a wonderful gift of encouraging others. He was strong, trustworthy, and someone others often relied on. Standing six feet six inches, he was a giant in stature but an even bigger giant in heart because of his love for others and his generosity toward them. He saw the hurting, the needy, the lonely, and he always reached out to help in any way he could, faithfully praying for everyone along the way.
Though John faced health struggles throughout his life, he understood his time on earth was limited and chose to make the most of each day. He poured his life into the lives of those around him, regardless of how he was feeling. He was a devoted Christian who recognized his life as a gift from God and every day was an opportunity to grow into the man, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend God had called him to be. The joy of the Lord was his strength.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., followed by a time of fellowship at Calvary Bible Church at 1450 Oakridge Road in Neenah; use the parking lot behind the church (first right – follow arrows toward “church office” and enter through door 15).
